Archisketch CEO Lee Joo-seong Appointed Chairman of Korea Furniture Industry Association: Ushering in the Era of Physical AI
In a groundbreaking move, Lee Joo-seong, CEO of Archisketch, has taken the helm as the new Chairman of the Korea Furniture Industry Association (KFIA). His appointment marks a significant shift as the residential space industry evolves into a manufacturing AI and spatial data-driven sector.
The KFIA is a pivotal organization dedicated to advancing the furniture industry through policy recommendations, system improvements, export support, quality certification, and educational resources. Traditionally led by CEOs of major furniture manufacturing companies such as Livart, Fursys, Geumseong Bed, Jaekyung Furniture, Hanssem, and Dauning, Lee's appointment as a tech-driven entrepreneur signals a notable transformation within the industry.
Lee Joo-seong is renowned for integrating 3D design technology and artificial intelligence into the furniture sector. He has been at the forefront of digitalizing the industry by developing a domestic technology-based platform for space design software. Lee has consistently advocated for establishing an industrial ecosystem capable of competing on a global scale, underpinned by furniture and spatial data.
As Chairman, Lee plans to spearhead the digital transformation of the furniture industry and establish a data-driven industrial ecosystem. His strategy involves standardizing furniture and spatial data, organizing industry conferences, launching educational programs, and implementing private certification systems to fortify the industry's foundation.
The domestic furniture market is expected to reach approximately $12.6 billion (18 trillion won) by 2024, with global market research firm IMARC Group forecasting growth to $17.7 billion (26 trillion won) by 2033. As a core manufacturing sector integral to residential environments, the furniture industry is experiencing structural changes fueled by AI and digital technology proliferation.
The digital shift in the furniture industry begins at the design stage. As essential physical objects within indoor spaces, furniture data generated during space design can lead to manufacturing automation and smart factories. With the expansion of AI technologies such as 'Spatial Intelligence' and 'Physical AI'—which enable understanding of real-world spaces and operate within physical environments—standardized furniture data is set to become a critical infrastructure.
Lee emphasized, "The furniture industry connects design, manufacturing, and real-life spaces, necessitating new roles as AI technology expands. We aim to build a data-based industrial environment that integrates manufacturing and residential space industries through furniture and space design data, fostering the evolution of the furniture industry into one that combines spatial data and AI technologies under the association's leadership."
